Press Release: Campaigner submits Travel-COVID evidence to Select Committee

It's time for politics to hear the Consumer voice

Consumers are languishing through this crisis for lack of consensus

Confidence-building measures are required along with sensible consensual solutions

Frank Brehany has today submitted evidence on the Travel-COVID19 crisis to the UK's Transport Select Committee.

This evidence reflects Frank's research and commentary since 30 January 2020 along with providing guidance to Consumers.

The Select Committee has been engaged in examining the affect upon the Travel Industry over several sessions and tomorrow, the Select Committee is due to hear evidence from Consumers about their experiences and the failures of their Consumer Rights.

Frank's submission covers a wide range of issues from Travel Company operations to Credit Refund Notes, the Consumer experience and the reaction of the Industry to COVID19 safety measures.

Frank has also submitted his report to the BEIS Select Committee (The Department for BEIS has ultimate responsibility for the operation and management of Travel Consumer Legislation), and also to the Consumer & Tourism Ministers for their attentions.

You can read Frank's submission here (minus the Annexes).

Frank Brehany states:

"There are so many failures being committed toward Consumers and in the political commentary, their voice has been lost. It is time to rebalance the relationship between the Travel Industry and Consumers and to protect the Rights that have been developed for nearly 50 years"

He concludes:

"I have every sympathy for Industry and have done my best to call for them to receive support and to engage with them; sadly, the Industry is split and there is no apparent appetite to seek consensus. This compounds the unilateral decisions being taken by Travel Companies, often to the detriment of the Consumer. Equally, there has been a political failure to intervene with resulting consequences. The time has come to deliver consensus and restore confidence both now and within the post-COVID market to come; this evidence hopefully will help to begin that journey"
